We operate our largest mine gas-fired engine plant at the STEAG Völklingen/Fenne power plant site. In each of the 14 modules around 1,500 cubic meters of mine gas per hour can be used. The installed electric and thermal capacity, respectively, is in excess of 40 megawatts.

The plant is supplied with fuel from our own 100 km long mine gas network. The fuel comes from extraction points in disused mining areas in the Saarland. The generated electricity is fed into the public grid under the Renewable Energies Act (EEG), while the heat is transferred to the network of the Saar district heating trunking line.
